Ans: Sergei was a practical man. He always encouraged Lushkoff to work hard for earning instead of begging. He called Lushkoff very often and provided him with work such as chopping woods , throwing the snow, moving furniture etc.and paid him for his works. His guidance helped Lushkoff a lot and he was a god father in true sense. But somewhere he failed to show the concern, care towards Lushkoff’s health condition which gave less impact on Lushkoff.

Ans: According to me, the title of the story, “The Beggar” is appropriate. This is because the complete story is based on the life of the beggar. It shows how a life of the beggar can be changed by providing a source of earning. Sergei was the one who acted like a god father in the life of Lushkoff and provided him the opportunities of earning. It was because of Sergei that Lushkoff got a job in notary and earned thirty five roubles per month. Not only Sergei but also Olga played a very important role in changing the life of Lushkoff. She was the lady who criticized Lushkoff but after that would sit just opposite to him and start weeping by seeing his pathetic condition. Olga did all his works and for that lady Lushkoff stopped drinking and brought a positive change in his life.
